Finding Relief from Carpal Tunnel
It used to be the only solutions for finding any relief for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome were medications and surgeries. Today, Clinton, Landover, Waldorf, and Washington, DC chiropractors have developed techniques for dealing with this painful condition.
Chiropractors work to help the body stay in its natural alignment. Bones will often shift and cause problems throughout the entire system, especially with nerves. In the case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the median nerve in the wrist becomes compressed. This is due to swelling within the wrist. When this happens, there may be swelling in the palms of the hands. This swelling may grow up into the thumb and first three fingers as well. It is also normal with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to experience pain, tingling, burning, and weakness in the hand. This can affect the mobility of the hand and may make it difficult to pick up small items.
In severe cases, where Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is left untreated and the swelling becomes worse, it is possible for the damage to become so severe that permanent loss of movement occurs.
How Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Happens
Again, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is where there is swelling in the wrist on the median nerve, causing a host of symptoms. Sometimes, a patient may have a known injury to a wrist that was previously broken. It is also common for there to have been repetitive stress placed on the wrists, such as through office work. It’s also common for those who work jobs that involve a lot of vibration on the wrists through heavy machinery to experience Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. These injuries lead to underlying problems that lead to swelling and misalignment. The bone and tissues in the wrist press on the median nerve, causing problems.
While in the above examples there are instances that may explain the source of this condition, it is also common to not know how it came about. Sometimes, the problem just appears one day without any explanation.
There are some known contributing factors that may play a part in the development of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. These factors include metabolic disorders, pregnancy, and obesity.
With some investigation by a chiropractor, it is commonly the case that when a patient has unexplained Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, there turns out to be a spinal misalignment irritating a nerve leading to the wrist. In this case, aligning the spine can relieve nerve irritation and lead to pain relief.
Finding Relief for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome With a Chiropractor
As mentioned above, the only treatment options used to be surgery, physiotherapy, and medications. These solutions aren’t truly solutions, as they rarely lead to long-term relief. They do not deal with the underlying condition.
When patients fail to find solutions that work for them, they are forced to then adapt their lives to accommodate their untreated conditions. This may include a career change or an inability to work. It may require needing assistance to get through daily tasks.
Effective treatment options can mean an improved quality of life for patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Chiropractic treatments are gentle solutions. They all begin with calling in for an appointment for a consultation. At the first appointment, your chiropractor will perform an exam and evaluate how you’re doing. They will look at what symptoms you are experiencing, and how long you’ve been experiencing them, and take a full medical history. Your chiropractor will then work with you to develop a treatment plan unique to your health needs.
